The Sentinel Owners & Pilots Association is an informal group of about 150 enthusiasts devoted to the history, preservation and enjoyment of the Stinson L-5 Sentinel, popularly known as the “Flying Jeep”. Founded in 2001, we are a club who is dedicated to owning, restoring and flying these unique planes and commemorating the pilots and organizations who flew them in their heyday of WWII and the Korean conflict.
As a clearing house of information and a hub for interacting with other L-5 enthusiasts, the SOPA is the primary “go to” source for owners and technicians who strive to “keep ’em flying” as well as those wanting to learn or share more about this often overlooked warbird.
With participants from nine countries, our members include owners, pilots, mechanics, restorers, modelers and historians, as well as relatives of veterans who were affiliated with the L-5 and its derivitives during it’s service in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, USAAF, RAF, Coast Guard and Civil Air Patrol from the 1940’s to the 1970’s.
