I need either an original mixture control cable or a means to have one constructed as an owner made part. I have an original knob so I could use those parts on a correctly constructed cable. I contacted ACS who makes some of the push pull cables for aircraft but they said they would not be able to help. Anyone found a place that can make these? Thanks

Matt,
Checkout this link for mixture and carb heat control. It is very close to the original.

John,
Thanks for the reply. It looks very close to the original. I have contacted McFarlane and sent them the original Stinson drawing requesting a custom made cable to match original control length, min. travel distance, round chrome push knob and on threaded end 1/4 – 28 thread.
Have a great day!

To follow up, I got the control cable in and it looks great. Dimensional the same, the only minor difference being no screw in the center of the knob. Only L-5 owners would know the difference. Thanks

Hi John ,
I have drilled , countersunk, tapped and installed a 6-32 screw in the center of the knob just for cosmetics. I worked well.

Nice! Was that the stock one from McFarlane or did they make a custom one for you?

There parts are standard. They will provide you a form to fill out. I used 76-53017 mixture control for length and thread. You can use 76-53023 for Carb Heat. I made the spacer that is required between knob and instrument panel for the mixture control. Hard to see it but it is there in the photo.

FWIW- I also installed the McFarlane’s mixture cable in my G model several years ago. Only an L-5 purist would know it isn’t original. After reading Sam’s response, I am now thinking of installing a 6-32 screw, just to confuse the purists!
