G’day Brains Trust,
I am about to build a box (p/n 76-63064 or G.F.E. 065169) for the restoration. Drawing 76-63000 Installations Furnishings it is used as a storage container for 76-63056 Cable Assem – Control Lock, also IPC Fig 45, item 15 as a Message Container.
I have asked around with no luck (I am in debt to Jim Grey who dragged himself from his sick bed to check his stocks without success).
If anyone knows the outside dimensions of this box, please leave a message.

Hilly: You can estimate the footprint pretty close once you have the 63019 floorboard installed. The container goes between them and the next cross tube and should be close to filling that area. Detail “G” on the 63000 drawing, page 2, upper right corner shows the mounting method and locations. You can estimate the height by approximation of the height of the folded stack of the cockpit covers and engine and prop cover.
Based on the drawings we have and the IPC, the web strap across the top of the container is probably 2″. Not a lot of 2″ stuff was used, but I have drawings calling for that width on another model aircraft.

I did basically the same thing Craig did using cardboard first to figure out the base using the mounting dimensions and the space available in relation to other items in the aircraft. You will also note that there is a divider in the box that is off to the left side to make a smaller compartment for the Control Lock Cable Assembly. After swagging the sizes for the box I looked at what I would like to carry in it (Oil) to ensure those containers would fit. It might as well be practical if no one knows the actual sizes of an original.

I figured that it would be a big ask but had to put the question in any event, much of the G.F.E. materials seem to be best guess these days.
Graig & Matt, the floor boards are in and I liked Matt’s thoughts around contents, I figured it would have been a long way back if the Observer ever had to reach around for a message.

Thnaks once again for the support guys, we are planning on starting the fuselage fabric recover in about 2 weeks.
