Does anyone have a couple of these clips that go around the fuselage tubing that they would be willing to part with or know of a source? I have a useless fluorescent light, but no power supply or bulb for it, but I also have two of the 12 volt lights that I’d like to install, but no mount clips. P/N is 76-64069. There is a drawing for it on Air Corps Library’s website.

Thanks,
Bill Gorin

1. Those clips are a commonly missing item. I might have some spares, but won’t be back in AZ to look until October or November. If you still haven’t found any by then, remind.
2. You may have noticed that the drawing the cross references some 77- part numbers. Those refer to the Stinson V-77 / SR-10, so if you can’t find any through our L-5 group, try the International Stinson Club forum at https://stinsonowners.org/.
3. In case you are unaware, all the L-5 drawings are also available through the club, they’re just not accessible online to everyone yet (maybe this winter’s project).
4. If you strike out finding the mounting clips, they wouldn’t be too awfully hard to make. As you can see, use 0.051″ (16 gauge) 24SO soft aluminum and then heat treat. If you cannot find a small piece of 24SO, you can easily come by the tempered 24ST variety. Just anneal it to remove the temper, work it to shape, and then heat treat. Sam Taber (Tabair) has a heat treating oven but there’s probably a local shop near you that does heat treating. Of course, if you end up making two, you might as well make twenty.

Bill: I’ve got a power supply if you want to copy it. It’s the single output one for the B thru E models I think.

Sorry, just getting back to catching up on the SOPA forums. Thanks James and Craig for the info. Craig, can you post pictures or drawings of your power supply or email them to me bill.gorin@gmail.com. I’ll look at the V-77 cross reference info and check with the Stinson Owners Club. We happen to have a V-77 in the museum where I keep my plane, so I may go check it out and talk to the owner.

Bill: P/N on the clips should be 76-64069-x. This drawing replaced the 76-31492, 31545 and 31505 when the G model was designed. The 64069 drawing also states that they are the same as the 77-64121-x drawings. Material list shows them to be 2024T0.
I’ll pull the power supply out this weekend and shoot some photos. Probably be a couple of weeks at least before I can do a correct set of drawings. I’m trying to get the antenna reel stuff done now, but having to switch software, so it’s slower than molasses at the South Pole….. The unit I’m copying has some incorrect parts, so I am trying to correct that as I go. I finally found out how the transmitter output is fed to the antenna wire and that part is a bit complicated to figure out, as I only have photos of it. I need to find a ceramic masthead and a guide cone for the rudder to make molds off of at some point.

Craig, did you ever have a chance to pull out your fluorescent light power supply and snap some photos?
Thanks,
Bill

Bill: Power supply is on the table behind my desk. I’ll see if I can get some decent photos when I get up.
