Last week while in in Oklahoma City visiting relatives, I managed to take a side trip to visit Gibson Aviation in El Reno. Enjoyed meeting Marshall Gibson, son of the founder, he is a wealth of knowledge, especially on the O-435 engines. Earlier this year he purchased several dozen O-290D cylinders from an estate sale of a crop duster. These are currently being overhauled and chromed to standard dimensions. He also sells piston rings for the p/n 69958 3-ring pistons but doesn’t have any pistons to sell. They will also paint the cylinder black instead of Lycoming Gray if requested.
Marshall shows up every day to work in the shop, as he as done the last 50 years, but his health isn’t great. So once he retires……….. we lose another valuable resource for the L-5 community.
