I was never able to find anyone who could provide the dimensions so I estimated based on period photos. I made the metal ring then welded in the three legs that go to the wire. The cone itself I made from canvas then folded the large end around the ring and glued it down. once this dried I painted the canvas part with Black Flex Seal to rubberize it. IT worked great and has been on my L-5 for 3 years now.
If anyone ever comes up with the dimensions I will make another if mine is not right.
I did basically the same thing Craig did using cardboard first to figure out the base using the mounting dimensions and the space available in relation to other items in the aircraft. You will also note that there is a divider in the box that is off to the left side to make a smaller compartment for the Control Lock Cable Assembly. After swagging the sizes for the box I looked at what I would like to carry in it (Oil) to ensure those containers would fit. It might as well be practical if no one knows the actual sizes of an original.
If you are referring to 76-63073 Bag Misc. Equipment which attaches to the back of the wooden observers seat then yes there is a factory drawing for it. It has the dimensions needed for each piece to make a complete bag and shows assembly.
Before I became an Army Officer and aviator, I was an enlisted Aeroscout Observer in OH-58Cs. As Aeroscout we did the navigation, observation (with binos) and calls for fire while the warrant officer pilot flew. We also had to be able to take off and land as well as handle emergencies to include 180 deg auto rotations. I did not know these two great men started it all in 1912. Thanks for sharing.
By the way glad I did not have to depend on Morse code to send my calls for fire!

Thanks Craig, I had a wonderful time at Oshkosh and got to finally meet several great L -5 owners. For those who were not able to make it. There were 6 L-5s present and many other owners who stopped by.
New radio installation is mounted on a hinge below instrument panel. It drops down for use in flight, folds up out of sight and is held in place with sliding tab when parked and on display.
